With only 9 players turning up, the lads were forced to position the goals across the width of the pitch.
The 5 men of Belmont 'A' took an early lead and managed to keep their noses in front of 4-man 'B' during the early stages of the game. It was a tight first half and 'B' were unlucky not to be level after seeing a number of shots either saved or kept out by the woodwork.
A pleasant surprise turned up in the form of original Belmont Sixer, Ian Patterson. It had been several years since the pacey utility man had made an appearance and it was good to see him on the Belmont pitch again.
The game was a more even affair but 'A' managed to consolidate their lead and win a close game 6-3.

'B' always looked in command and dominated the game from the start. The only positive for Belmont 'A' was the return of Howardinho, who looked like he'd never been away.

The six men of Belmont 'B' came back from 2-0 down to edge a close game 5-3.
At 2-0 up, Belmont 'A' were coasting. It looked unlikely that 'B' would be able to break down their well-organised defence. The breakthrough finally came, but 'A' hit back quickly to take a 3-1 lead.
The bibs rallied and battled back to 3-3. With under 10 minutes left on the clock, The Cat parried a shot into the path of Dan Mullen. He hit it on the volley, Peter making another great save. However, the rebound fell into Mullen's path again, this time powering a shot below the keeper to make it 4-3 to 'B'.
'A' hit back with a sustained period of attack, getting shots on target that required some tremendous 'keeping by Leon, then Steeley hit a stinging shot that Dan managed to keep out.
A nervous final few minutes saw Chris Riley hit a lovely angled drive past The Cat to put the game beyond doubt.

The howling gales that blew on Thorsdee made for tricky conditions in which to stage a fitba' contest.
Once again it was the team with one less man, playing into the wind, that prevailed. The Bibs looked stronger and more organized from the get-go. Trouser Howser (keeper), The Kaiser and The Scoreboard were resolute at the back throughout, shackling the creativity of JT, the distribution of Krys-Kross, the utter slagginess of The Greek and the pace of Carra. The Cat was far the busier keeper and had the metalwork to thank on three/tres/drei occasions.
The Bibs welcomed the return of Ponyboy, who majestically romped past/through/over the shirts with apparent ease for much of the match. In addition, Rockstar Riley linked up well with Gilbortino, (well, once anyway).
Both keepers suffered injured digits within minutes of one another. The Cat did himself a mischief whilst The Howser collided with summit metal, resulting in his tiddly fadge thumb swelling up to the size of Malcolm Crosby's schnoz. He seemed less concerned about the consequences for work, rather more about how he would, er, "enjoy" eezsell owa the week.

After coming back from a 4-0 deficit, Belmont 'A' were distraught to lose 9-7.
Having gained a 7-5 lead 'A' were looking for a much desired victory, but two late strikes saw them lose a match that they should have won.
The Guv'nor said, "We should have won and even a draw flattered our opposition; the result was a travesty".

A return to the recently refurbished Bellidrome saw Belmont 'A' put in a good performance to win a tight game.
New fencing, new goals and a seemingly slightly wider pitch made the venue look almost unrecognisable. However, as the first ball to be launched over the new fence disappeared into the distance, the spirit of the old Bellidrome manifested itself.
This week also saw the welcome return of one of the old boys, Ian Johnston. Fresh from his stateside adventures, "The Scoreboard" looked hungry and ready for his return to action.
With 16 men on the pitch, this was always going to be a tight game. An early penalty shout for Belmont 'A' was the closest either side came to opening the scoring in the first twenty minutes. The deadlock was finally broken by Micky Steele, putting the 'A' team ahead with the first goal at the new Bellidrome.
It didn't take long for Belmont 'B' to find an equaliser, and it stayed even for some time.
Well into the second half of the match, with the scores still even, Ian J. had to leave. A man down, things looked bleak for Belmont 'A'. However, the loss of the ineffective yank* proved to be the impetus that 'A' needed.
Dan Mullen made it 2-1 to Belmont 'A' before 'B' pushed on with a sustained period of attack. Some good defending kept them out, in particular a couple of saves by The Kaiser. Desperate for an equaliser, 'B' left gaps at the back that 'A' finally exploited when Steeley got his second goal of the game.
With the match almost won, Dan Mullen received a rolled out ball from the keeper. With Pony Boy closing on him like an express train, Dan coolly dragged the ball away from the tackle and set off head down towards goal. Feigning a shot, Mullen passed to The Guv'nor and carried on his run. A lovely 1-2 saw the ball come back into Mullen's path where he hit it first time into the corner. A second goal of the evening for him and a fourth for Belmont 'A' sealed a very good win.

The 4th of September 2008 will go down in the annals of Belmont Sixes history as the day when all previous scoring records were smashed, as Belmont 'A' beat Belmont 'B' by a staggering 24-7!
Prior to kick off, Howardinho thought that Belmont 'B' looked the much stronger of the sides and would win comfortably. The Cheetah could not have been more wrong.
After a nervous start, the scores stood at 1-1 five minutes into the game. Things looked bleak for Belmont 'A' when Dan Mullen suffered a dead leg thanks to the knee of Leon Howe. Mullen shook off the injury and contributed to a superb team performance.
The combination of some lovely passing, tough tackling, cracking goals and a typically solid performance by The Cat in goal led to a big win for the 'A' team.
Krys Jones scored a lot of very good goals, Peter made a series of stunning saves and the whole team played well as a unit. However, Man of the Match must go to The Kaiser. Not only did he put in a very solid defensive performance, he got forward at every opportunity and topped things off with a wonder goal, taking on every member of the opposition before cooly slotting the ball home.

In spite of falling short, a full hearted performance from Belmont 'B' meant the men in bibs walked off the pitch with heads held high.
With a below average performance, Belmont 'A' saw themselves fall 5-0 behind despite having a man extra. Only fatigue in the latter stages of the match prevented the early leaders achieving the win they so richly deserved.

Inspired by the presence of his kids, Steve Gilbert put in the performance of his life to help secure a 10-5 victory for his side, Belmont 'A'.
Gilbert scored 4 goals, a personal best for the tall defender.
Dan Mullen also scored 4 goals, although unusually these were split between the two sides. To make up for the uneven number of players, Mullen switched sides with 15 minutes remaining on the clock.
